The Housing Affordability Crisis: A Call to Action for Cape Cod Builders

housing affordability

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently released its 2025 Housing Affordability Pyramid, revealing a concerning trend: 76.4 million U.S. households—57% of the total—cannot afford a $300,000 home. With the median price of a new single-family home at $459,826, approximately 100.6 million households (nearly 75%) are priced out of the market.

This affordability crisis is not just a national issue; it resonates deeply in regions like Cape Cod, where housing costs continue to rise. The NAHB's analysis underscores the urgent need for strategic actions to increase housing supply and make homeownership more attainable.

As members of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC), we have a pivotal role to play. By advocating for policies that reduce construction costs, streamline permitting processes, and support affordable housing initiatives, we can work towards a more inclusive housing market.
